How to Pack in the Right Order

Packing for a move can be a complicated process. You have to organise all your belongings, find a removalist to help you move, and pack everything up into boxes that will be shipped across the country. If you’re not prepared then the moving process can be incredibly stressful, which is why it’s important to start organising everything early. This will help you to stay on track and make sure everything is packed in the right order.

Make a list

Before you start any packing you need to make an inventory. Set out everything that needs to be packed, everything that needs to be thrown out, and everything you’ll be donating to charity or putting in storage. This will make your packing process much easier, as you won’t be packing things you don’t need!

Pack your least used items first

If you have items in your house that you hardly ever use, then these are the best things to pack first. You won’t miss them while they’re in boxes and you should easily be able to survive without them until you get to your new destination.

Pack items such as:

  • Photographs
  • Jewellery
  • Documents
  • Seasonal clothing
  • Books
  • DVDS and CDs
  • Family heirlooms
  • China and crockery

Start with storage areas

Areas that are used for storage are great places to start packing. They’re generally full of items that you don’t need as much like garden equipment, spare linen, old photographs, and more. These rooms will often include garages, cupboards, spare rooms, sheds, and attics. If you don’t have any of these, then just think about which rooms are used for storing items the most.

Pack items such as:

  • Furniture
  • Garden equipment
  • Memorabilia
  • Tools
  • Spare linen
  • Toys

Pack up your lest used rooms

In most homes you’ll find there are rooms that aren’t used as much as others. Often the study, dining room, and rumpus room will be the least used. You can generally find somewhere else to go if you don’t have these rooms, so the items in them aren’t as important to your daily life.

Pack items such as:

  • Furniture
  • Spare televisions or computers
  • Gaming consoles
  • Speakers and sound systems

If you’re packing a truck yourself, it’s good to know what order you need to pack your goods in to save the most space, time, and effort. Load the heaviest items in first as keep them on the floor, then work in sections from here. Pack tightly to the top to optimise the space and always put lighter items on top of heavier items. This will make it easier and safer to unload later!

Packing isn’t always fun, but if you do it right it can be easy! If you want the packing process to go smoothly and quickly, make sure you pack everything in the right order. This will save you lots of time and energy, so you’ll be able to relax more during your move.
