Clocktower puts on a Krakouer show

(Moonee Valley Weekly)

It’s not often that sport and art go hand in hand. It takes a different kind of story and event to make it happen, like playwright Reg Cribb’s Krakouer!

Written in collaboration with Sean Gorman, author of Brotherboys: The story of Jim and Phillip Krakouer, Cribb’s stage adaptation tells of the football brothers who made a name for themselves as North Melbourne VFL stars.

“The indigenous story hasn’t been told,” says Cribb from his home in Western Australia.

Krakouer!looks beyond the unique ”black magic” style of football that made Jim and Phil Krakouer legends of the 1980s. It aims to tell the story behind the headlines.

Acted by Jimi Bani, Sean Dow and Luke Hewitt, Krakouer!introduces audiences to a wider cultural framework that describes the brothers’ setbacks and challenges when racial prejudice was rife in the football world.

Krakouer! is at the Clocktower Centre, 750 Mount Alexander Road, Moonee Ponds, at 8pm, August 12-13. Tickets: $36-$46. Book at: www.clocktowercentre.com.au
