Todays thieves are getting smarter. The bank account of an Ascot Vale woman whose handbag was stolen was emptied of its funds within 20 minutes.
The thief sent a text message to her husband, whose number was in the phones memory bank, asking him to let her know the PIN of her card because she had forgotten it. The husband obliged.
Neighbourhood Watch suggests that we call back to confirm the legitimacy of a text message before divulging sensitive information.
Police also confirm that thieves who broke into a car at a football match used the navigator system to raid the owners home and the garage door remote control to access the home and empty its contents.
Everyone needs to take more care.
