Victorian Lions’ Clubs have given more than 40,000 teddy bears to traumatised children over the past 20 years. The Lions, including the local Essendon Club, work with the police sexual offences ad child abuse units, the air ambulance, the children’s court, bail; justices and the SES in distributing the bears.
Emergency services workers say the bears help them build a relationship with abused children. About 2500 bears are required each year. Essendon Lions continue to support the work of Flemington police and next month president Steven Brown will hand over a cheque for $13,000 to support their ongoing community work in Flemington and Kensington.
