On the 23rd of July 2008 Representatives of the 2007 Year 11 students from Buckley Park Secondary College presented a box of thirty Teddy Bears to the Victorian Air Ambulance Service. The presentation was made at the Essendon Airport by Students Melissa Behan and Jessica Patsiourisas to Melinda Edwards and Paramedic Mark Jones from Air Ambulance Victoria.
The Funds were raised by the students for the purchase of the bears. The class raised over $240 to fund this worthy project. Purchase of the bears was arranged through Stan Falloon from the Lions Club of Essendon under the Lions CrimeWatch program “Operation Teddy Bear”. Last year Operation Teddy Bear distributed over 3000 teddy bears to organisations such as the Victorian Police Force, Bail Justice Association, Victorian Police SOCA units, Air Ambulance, Trauma units at various hospitals and the State Emergency Services Victoria.
Teddy Bears are distributed by these organisations in the course of their work to children involved in traumatic situations such as road accidents, cancer treatment, home violence and other situations. Year 11 Students from Buckley Park undertook to raise funds for this fantastic Lions project and they should be congratulated for their initiative and support for this community project. Congratulations also their teacher Denise Truscott for her guidance and support.
