Just four days before cyclone Nargis hit Burma, Rotarians were delivering essential equipment to the impoverished Rangoon Children’s Hospital. For the past eight years the Rotary Club of Essendon has provided the hospital with bare essentials and now the need is more urgent, club president Richard Lawrence says.
“They’re in desperate need of IV bags,” he said. “We’ve been going to Burma for about eight years and their children’s hospital is not like the Royal Children’s here in Melbourne.
“They have a hospital and well-trained doctors but no equipment.”
Mr Lawrence said that, along with children’s IV bags, the Rotary Club of Essendon was also collecting donations for shelter boxes. Each shelter box costs $1200 and includes: a 10-person tent, cooking facilities, a water-filtration system, a thermal ground sheet and eating and drinking containers……more
