(essendonfc.com.au)Essendon Football Club aims to be genuine when it comes to making a difference in the community.
When it came to planning the Club’s event calendar in 2008, it was decided the time was right for our premier event to live and breathe this commitment and so the Red and Black Ball became the Dreamtime Ball. It is still very much an event of the Essendon Football Club but it is now a cause-related fundraiser. It is no longer about Essendon’s bottom line in many ways it is about this country’s bottom line, which is that we must all do more to support Indigenous Australians.
It will be a night where Essendon people from all walks can get together for a night of entertainment and make a real difference for the Indigenous community at the same time – a community which has meant so much to this Club.
To ensure meaningful outcomes are achieved, Essendon has again teamed up with one of its most famous sons – the much-loved and admired Michael Long. On field Michael Long’s was a genius. He had a feel for the game reserved for the chosen few. His most memorable performance came on Grand Final Day when against the odds, Essendon soundly defeated Carlton. Long was the inspiration.
Off-field Michael Long has also been the inspiration. His walk to Canberra in 2004 was about highlighting the inequality and injustice suffered by Indigenous Australians. A nation stood as one to applaud him and so The Long Walk was born. The Long Walk is a tax-deductible charity focussed on supporting programs – and people – that will help bridge the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australia. It is about supporting existing Indigenous leaders and creating the next generation of them.
Essendon Football Club is now proud to call itself a partner of The Long Walk. And the Dreamtime Ball is about raising funds to support the Long Walk and the Essendon Football Club in their endeavours. It will be a night of great entertainment, headlined by the Young Divas. It is also a night of great importance and we urge Essendon supporters to be a part of this special night.
This is a night not to be missed so early bookings are advised.
The Ball will be held on Saturday, 31 May 2008 at 7:00:00 PM at Palladium at Crown
