ROWING was the winner on Saturday when Essendon Rowing Club hosted the Henley On The Maribyrnong Regatta. Regarded as the fastest sprint regatta in Australia, the event produced an afternoon of intense competition and close finishes.
Essendon Rowing Club’s Peter Hammon said the day was a success for the club. “There was a lot of really good racing,” he said. “All the doubles and singles skulls were decided by less than one metre between first and second so it was very close, exciting racing all day.”
“The day also included the inaugural Victorian sprint titles and over 1000 people came throughout the afternoon so there was a real carnival atmosphere.”
Essendon found success in eight races, with Steve Cogdell outlasting Power House Rowing Club’s Adrian Best in the Men’s Grade D scull.The club was first and second in the men’s Grade C double scull, while the men’s Grade A quad also had a win……read more.
