Essendon Football Club News – Hooker could be the surprise packet

Hooker could be the surprise packet
Time will tell but 196cm Cale Hooker could end up proving a steal for the Bombers who picked up the Perth local in Saturday’s draft with pick 54 (Essendon’s last pick). Hooker recorded times of 2.88 seconds for the 20m sprint and 7.94 seconds for the agility run in testing – times which place him in the upper echelon of the 64 draftees from Saturday.

Footage of Myers in action on Bomber.tv
Essendon fans can see the hard running, skill and obvious potential of the Bombers’ first pick in the 2007 draft, David Myers, on Bomber.tv from now. A highlights collection of Myers, who was taken with pick 6, playing for Perth Football Club and Western Australia’s all-conquering under/18 team show the reason Essendon was so keen to bring him to Windy Hill.

Essendon secures Myers with pick six
Essendon today ended months of speculation selecting tall, mobile defender, David Myers, with pick six of the 2007 National AFL Draft. Recruited from Perth, Myers – who was born 30 June, 1989 – is a potent left-footer and a graduate of the 2005/06 AIS-AFL Academy.

Daniher looks forward to tomorrow’s draft
The 2008 National AFL draft is only one sleep away and, while there will be many bleary-eyed football hopefuls at tomorrow’s draft to see if their aspirations of playing AFL come true, there will be nothing but sweet dreaming tonight for Darcy Daniher. Daniher’s hopes of being selected by an AFL club are already a reality after being selected by Essendon with selection 39 under the father/son rule.

Essendon reports record profit
The Essendon Football Club has reported a Club record net profit of $2.014 million for the financial year, ending October 31st, 2007. The final profit figure was reached on total revenue of $36.24 million and has also been achieved without the $500,000 dividend paid to every other AFL Club for participating in the AFL Telstra website network.
