Moonee Valley City Council and Moonee Valley Racing Club are hosting the third annual Mayoral Charity Plate Community Race Day at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Wednesday, 26 September.
Now in its third year, the Charity Race Day will raise funds for the Moonee Valleys Friendship City, Liquica in East Timor, and for local youth programs in the Flemington and North Melbourne area.
Moonee Valley Mayor Cr Ben Opie said the event was expected to make a significant contribution to both of these worthy causes.
Council is committed to ensuring we do all we can to provide community groups with as much support as possible. The Mayoral Charity Race Day continues to be one of our major fundraising initiatives with more than $45,000 raised over the past two years.
This year, we are proud to continue to support our Friendship City, the Liquica District of East Timor, as we have done in the past. We are also focusing on the important work the local community is doing for young people in Flemington and North Melbourne.
We are also pleased to advise that our fundraising efforts will be supported by Variety Victoria. Council and the Racing Club are partnering with this childrens charity in a number of community events, Cr Opie said. More….
