Essendon Football Club News – Bombers face their toughest test

Bombers face their toughest test
Kevin Sheedy today acknowledged the challenge confronting the Bombers this week as they take on an in-form West Coast unit. “They are absolutely a benchmark of the competition. I think that, with all credit to them, they have recruited very well,” Sheedy said.

Jetta and Dempsey set to return
Essendon faces a happy selection dilemma this week with almost all seniors players available, including Leroy Jetta and Courtenay Dempsey. The fleet-footed duo are pushing to make their return to football after battling injury woes and have added significantly to the Bomber’s depth. However, considering the first-class form displayed by the Bomber line-up against Sydney last weekend, there is a strong chance Jetta and Dempsey will line-up with the Bendigo Bombers in order to earn their place in the senior team.

Bombers prove a point
If last week’s performance was touted as one of Essendon’s most thrilling victories then this match should certainly come close. After what appeared to be a cakewalk for the Eagles early on, the Bombers pulled together to produce a stellar second half of football and defeat a fiercely competitive West Coast unit by one point. After allowing the Eagles to get off to a 29-point lead in the first quarter, the Bombers soon found themselves battling tirelessly to atone and to try to fault West Coast’s seemingly flawless gameplan. Somehow Essendon’s coaching mastermind, Kevin Sheedy, was able to pull out the right tricks at the right time and found a successful means of denting the Eagles armour, allowing the Bombers to walk away victorious in a thriller.
