The long awaited work has started on the $1.2 million redevelopment of the Moonee Valley Athletics track.
Moonee Valley Mayor Cr Ben Opie said the machines moved in in early December to start demolishing the existing track. “Demolition should be complete within 10 days and the contractors are hoping to commence drainage works before Christmas,” Cr Opie said.
He said they would start the concrete curbing around the track in January and the new track should start being laid in late February.
“Council will post photos on our website so citizens will be able to follow the progress of the redevelopment, Cr Opie said.
As a result of the works, the very popular “Relay for Life” has been transferred to Windy Hill this year and will be held earlier than usual – on February 9-10th.
The project is expected to be completed early May.
