AFTER staging 110 productions, the Essendon Theatre Company is celebrating its 30-year anniversary on November 11.
Among those celebrating will be last-standing founding member Eileen Bentley, who is directing the company’s latest production, Aladdin.”’I’ve directed 40 plays, but I’ve been involved in all of the 110 plays personally, whether it has been directing, backstage work, making costumes or front of house,” the 64-year-old says.
”The only thing I won’t do is climb the ladder to fix the lighting – it’s too high!”
Ms Bentley was one of 12 founding members who formed the group, then known as the Jackobeans, to stage strong, contemporary plays that questioned social and political ideas…..more
