A meeting of philanthropic minds will make for a fascinating lunch when Gabi Hollows speaks at a fund-raising lunch for cancer research.
The lunch is the main fund-raiser for the year for top money-making team Brumby’s Babes, which has raised more than $150,000 over the past six years through involvement in the Relay for Life marathon supporting cancer research.
This year the guest speaker will be Ms Hollows, widow of pioneer eye surgeon Fred, whose work restoring sight in Third World countries and Aboriginal communities is continued through the Fred Hollows Foundation.
Several groups and companies have lent their support to the day, paying for the right to decorate a table at the lunch, the best of which will be judged on the day. The MC is Tony Charlton.
One of the organisers, Sue Duras, said: ”Now we need to get some more bums on seats.”
The lavish affair is at the Moonee Valley Racing Club from 11.30 on Friday, November 3, and tickets cost $80, which includes some drinks. Bookings: Jan Thomas, 9390 9079 or Gail Cariss, 9331 0919.
