Serviceable season for Welsh
Essendon fans have commended Welsh’s ability to find the ball this season but urge the young defender to work on his consistency and discipline for 2007. Welsh, who played 20 games this year, finished fifth in the Bomber’s Best and Fairest, after a steady season with the Bombers.
Longing for Lovett magic
After promising so much last year, Andrew Lovett’s career took an awkward turn this season. The lightening-quick midfielder battled to string games together as injuries and suspension kept him out of the senior team. However, in the 13 games he did play for the year, Lovett’s pace and creativity proved a valuable asset to the Essendon line-up.
Johnson back on track
A lack of a full pre-season hampered Jason Johnson early in the year, but the resilient midfielder soon warmed up and found form, powering home at season’s end. Disappointed with Johnson’s performances early on, fans hope the Bomber’s hardman will have a full pre-season and be ready to exhibit his fearless and committed football in 2007.
