IN a tradition spanning more than a century, Essendon Rowing Club will christen two new boats at an open day on Sunday.
The additions, named Stuart Sheridan and Rob and Trudi Wapling, will be officially christened in honour of notable club members at the celebration.
President Chris Hammon said the event marked the new rowing season. ”It’s a tradition stemming back to the early days of the 125-year-old club. Every time we get a new boat in the place, we christen it. The celebration acknowledges those members – we smash a bottle of champagne over the bow.”…..more
