The Moonee Valley Leader reports that Yarra Trams is preparing to celebrate the anniversary of the first electric tram service along Mt Alexander Rd on October 11, 1906.

Yarra Trams spokeswoman Sara Parmar said former workers at the Essendon depot were invited to return for the anniversary on October 15 between 11am and 3pm. “Essendon depot is special, it is the only depot that has had a 100 year service of electric trams,” Ms Parmar said. The original tram that operated from the Mt Alexander Rd depot was being revamped at Yarra Trams’ Preston workshop and is on loan from the Hawthorn Tramways museum. “There are a lot of people interested in that tram, because it’s such an old tram,” she said.
