Five men, five stories, part documentary and part impressionistic dance work, I Want to Dance Better at Parties examines the private lives of men and their experiences with dance. From dusty dance halls to pounding nightclubs, these mens intimate disclosures offer fascinating insights into what makes men move.
I Want To Dance Better grew out of a documentary in which Gideon Obarzanek interviewed men about their relationship to dance. The revelations come from five very different men a dance music composer who avoids dancing at all costs, a recently widowed father of two taking private dancing lessons, a testosterone fuelled young clubber, a rainbow clogger and a retired telecommunications engineer with an obsession with collecting and coding folk dances.
Excerpts from each of the filmed documentary interviews are presented on five giant screens and are interwoven with dance, lighting and music.
