Bombers’ fight back falls short
It was meant to be a celebration of James Hird’s career tonight at The Dome, but it didn’t end in revelry for Essendon, defeated at the hands of Hawthorn by 18 points. Despite a nine goal to three second half in the favour of the Bombers, it was the Hawks that did all of the damage early in the match getting out to a 62-point lead mid way through the second quarter.
Rioli returns to Bombers line-up
Dean Rioli will make his anticipated return to senior AFL on Saturday night, having not played for Essendon since Round 6. The Bombers have made just two changes for the Hird Celebration match with Dean Solomon the other inclusion to the side after playing one week with the Bendigo Bombers.
Bendigo back on winners list
The Bendigo Bombers are back on the winners list after four straight losses, defeating the Coburg Tigers by 20 points yesterday at the Queen Elizabeth Oval. When the two teams last met earlier in the season, Coburg were too strong for Bendigo winning the match by 45-points.
