Bombers’ fight back falls short
It was meant to be a celebration of James Hird’s career tonight at The Dome, but it didn’t end in revelry for Essendon, defeated at the hands of Hawthorn by 18 points. Despite a nine goal to three second half in the favour of the Bombers, it was the Hawks that did all of the damage early in the match getting out to a 62-point lead mid way through the second quarter.
Bombers missing key defenders for Tigers
Essendon has made four changes to its Round 21 match against Richmond on Saturday night at the MCG. Key defenders Dustin Fletcher (hamstring) and Andrew Welsh (shin) are out of the side, Jason Johnson is suspended, while Ben Jolley can consider himself unlucky omitted after consistent performances over recent weeks.
Young Bombers sign new two-year deals
Emerging Essendon youngsters Jobe Watson and Jason Winderlich have today signed new two-year deals with the Bombers. Both look to be genuine long-term mid-field prospects and they are now tied to the Club until at least the end of the 2008 season.
