ESSENDON Football Club, the AFL and the State Government will spend $1.2 million to redevelop Windy Hill’s Cookson Stand to improve sporting facilities for the community.
After the State Government announced last week it would spend $55 million to upgrade former AFL playing grounds, Windy Hill is among the recipients to win funding.
The government and the AFL have agreed to match Essendon’s funding contribution of $600,000.
Essendon chief executive officer Peter Jackson said the funding development was a win for community groups.
“As an elite sporting club, our community strategy revolves around strengthening communities through sport,” Mr Jackson said. “A strong and vibrant Windy Hill precinct will assist us in delivering on this objective to the benefit of all and cement our community programs moving forward.”……more
