Essendon Poultry Society

Essendon Poultry Society’s history goes way back to the late 1800s, 1890 to be exact, when meetings were held in Puckle Street. The first Annual Show was held in the Town Hall in 1890. Over the past fifty or so years the Annual Show and most meetings have been held at the Poultry Pavilion of the Royal Showgrounds, but lately due to the redevelopment of the site and buildings, this has not been possible, and so our meetings are held at either the North Suburban Sportsmans Club, Mt. Alexander Road, Moonee Ponds or at the Poultry Pavilion, Whittlesea Showgrounds. We are very hopeful that with the completion of the works at the Melbourne Showgrounds we can return to our home of over half a century. Our Annual Show for the fowls is held on the 2nd weekend on July each year, and this year due to the above mentioned works, we have relocated to Bendigo Showgrounds as Whittlesea could not accommodate our anticipated entry of 500+ fowls. Poultry exhibition is not limited to any age bracket, any particular sex or people with or without disability. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. We encourage anyone who is interested in the keeping and/or exhibition of pure breeds of poultry to join our Society for advice and guidance by contacting us at sueesimpson@austarnet.com.au
